STONEHAND

Terms

What Stonehand is, what it is not, what you are paying for, and what happens if something goes wrong.

Version 2.0 · draft of 28 August 2026 · not yet reviewed by counsel

These terms are between you and Torinagi LLC, a Virginia limited liability company ("we", "us"), and they govern your use of Stonehand. Using Stonehand means you accept them. If you are accepting on behalf of a company or a trust, you are confirming you may bind it.

1. What Stonehand is

A record. It gathers what your accounts already say and what you enter yourself, and presents it in one place. It is a bookkeeping tool for your own use.

Stonehand cannot move money. It cannot pay a bill, make a transfer, place a trade, or act on your accounts in any way. Every bank connection is read-only. Nothing shown here is an instruction that has been carried out on your behalf.

2. It is not advice

Nothing in Stonehand is financial, investment, tax, legal or accounting advice, and nothing in it is a recommendation to do or not do anything with your money. Figures, categories, projections, statements and any answer produced by Ask Stone or by an assistant you have connected are a presentation of your own records. Decisions you make are yours, and for anything consequential you should speak to someone qualified and licensed to advise you.

We are not a bank, a broker-dealer, an investment adviser, a tax preparer or an accountant, and we are not acting as your fiduciary.

3. Your account

You must be at least 18 to open a household. You are responsible for the security of your own sign-in, including your second factor, which we strongly recommend enabling.

Do not share your account. Anything done through your sign-in is recorded as having been done by you, and the audit trail cannot be edited afterwards.

You may invite other people into your household. A role limits what they may do; an entity scope limits which records they may do it to. You choose both, and you may withdraw access at any time without notice. Anyone you invite is bound by these terms.

4. Children

You may keep books for a child of any age — a custodial account, a savings goal, a page of their own. That is your family's money and your record of it.

A child under 13 cannot be given a login, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. A child of 13 or over may be given one by a parent or guardian in the household; it is read-only and narrowed to that child. By granting it you confirm you are that child's parent or guardian and consent on their behalf.

5. Subscriptions and payment

Stonehand is paid for by subscription. The plan, its price and its billing period are shown before you buy and in Settings afterwards. Payment is taken by Stripe; we do not store your card details.

6. Bank connections

Connections are provided by Plaid. You sign in at your own bank, not here, and Stonehand never receives your banking credentials. Your use of that connection is also subject to Plaid's own terms and privacy policy, and to the terms of the institution you connect.

You may disconnect an institution at any time. Doing so destroys the stored access token and removes the connection at Plaid. Records already gathered remain until you remove them.

7. Assistants and connected applications

You may connect Stonehand to an AI assistant or another application. When you do, you are shown what it will be able to read and you approve it explicitly. It creates a token you can see and revoke in Settings; revoking it disconnects the assistant immediately. Tokens do not expire on their own.

A connected assistant can read; it cannot move money, because Stonehand cannot. What you choose to send to a third-party assistant is governed by that assistant's terms, not ours, and we are not responsible for what it does with it.

8. Acceptable use

Do not use Stonehand to break the law, to store somebody else's financial records without their knowledge, to attack or overload the service, to probe or circumvent its security, to resell it, or to scrape it. Do not upload malware, and do not upload material you have no right to hold.

Automated access is fine through the interfaces we provide — the API and the assistant connection — within their published rate limits.

9. Accuracy

The figures come from your institutions and from what you enter. We do not verify either, and we do not guarantee that anything shown is complete, current or correct. Banks restate transactions, feeds break, and a value you entered by hand is only as good as the day you entered it.

Do not rely on Stonehand as the authority for a tax return, a loan application, a legal filing or anything else that matters. Check it against the source. Statements it produces are generated from your own records at the moment you ask for them.

10. Your data

What is collected, who processes it and how long it is kept is set out in the privacy policy. Your books are yours: you can export everything at any time without asking, and you can delete your household, which removes it after 30 days.

You grant us only the licence we need to run the service for you — to store, process, back up and display your data so that Stonehand works. We do not use it to train AI models and we do not sell it.

11. Availability

Stonehand is provided as it is. We work to keep it up but do not promise any particular level of availability, and it may be unavailable, interrupted or changed. We may add, alter or remove features; if we remove something you depend on, we will tell you first.

12. Warranties

To the fullest extent the law allows, Stonehand is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Some jurisdictions do not allow this, in which case it does not apply to you.

13. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, nor for lost profits, lost data or lost opportunity, arising from your use of Stonehand — including any decision made on the basis of what it showed you, any inaccuracy in the data, or any interruption.

Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

14. Indemnity

You will indemnify us against claims arising from your use of Stonehand in breach of these terms or of the law, including anything you upload or anyone you invite.

15. Ending it

You may stop using Stonehand at any time, cancel your subscription, and delete your household. We may suspend or end access where these terms are being broken, where use is unlawful, or where a payment has failed and stayed failed. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right.

If we end the service altogether, you will be given at least 60 days' notice and the ability to export everything.

16. Disputes

If something goes wrong, write to contact@stonehand.family first — most things are settled that way. If they are not, these terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and the courts of Virginia have exclusive jurisdiction.

Note for review: this section deliberately does not contain an arbitration clause or a class-action waiver. Whether to add one — and in what form — is a decision for counsel, not a default to be copied from another company's terms.

17. Changes

If these terms change materially, the people using Stonehand are told directly — by email and in the application — at least 30 days before the change takes effect, rather than being left to notice a new date on a page. Continuing to use Stonehand after that means you accept them.

18. The rest

These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between us. If any part of them is unenforceable, the rest stands. Not enforcing something once does not waive it. You may not transfer these terms; we may, on notice, if the business is sold or reorganised — see the note on the operator below.

Stonehand is operated by Torinagi LLC. If the operating entity changes, that is a change we will tell you about under section 17 rather than a silent swap.
