What Stonehand does, how to connect it to an assistant, and what that assistant can and cannot do.

Getting started

1. Sign up at app.stonehand.family and give your household a name.
2. Connect a bank, or add accounts by hand. Connections go through Plaid and are read-only — Stonehand cannot move money.
3. Set a budget, in whichever of the three shapes suits you: fixed amounts, flexible targets, or envelopes filled from each paycheque.
4. Invite whoever else needs to see it. Each person gets their own sign-in, their own password and their own second factor — never yours.

Connecting an assistant

Stonehand speaks the Model Context Protocol, so it can be added to Claude, ChatGPT, or anything else that supports MCP.

What you are approving

The consent screen lists what the assistant will be able to read. That list is generated from the same table that decides what the token actually receives, so it cannot say one thing and grant another.

• Your plan and what Stonehand can do
• Accounts, balances and recent activity
• Transactions, spending and cash flow
• Your budget
• Your net worth

What it cannot do

It cannot move money. No payment, no transfer, no trade — Stonehand has no such capability to grant. It also cannot see any household other than the one you approved it for, and cannot see an entity you have scoped it away from.

Turning it off

Every connection creates a token listed in Settings → Connections. Revoke it and the assistant is disconnected immediately. Tokens do not expire on their own, so revoking is how a connection ends.

What you can ask

Once connected, an assistant can answer from your books:

• "What did we spend on groceries last month, and how does that compare to the month before?"
• "Find every transaction with Clerk this year."
• "What is our net worth, and what has it done since March?"
• "Which subscriptions went up in price?"
• "How much is left in the envelopes?"

Answers come back as charts where a chart is the honest shape, drawn from the same specification the application's own charts use — so a figure in your assistant cannot drift from the figure on the page.

People and access

Two separate things decide what somebody can do:

• A role — owner, admin, member, bookkeeper, accountant, controller or viewer — decides what they may do.
• An entity scope decides which books they may do it to. A bookkeeper engaged for one company never sees the household's accounts.

Both are chosen when you invite somebody, so the grant is decided before it is given rather than repaired afterwards.

Children

You can keep books for a child of any age. A child of 13 or over can be given a sign-in of their own from their page: read-only, and narrowed to their own accounts, goals and history. Under 13 there is no login — their money is still on their page, kept by you.

Your data

• Export everything as CSV or a spreadsheet, at any time, without asking.
• Delete a record, a household, or your account. A deleted household is removed after 30 days; say so and it goes immediately.
• It is never used to train an AI model, ours or anybody else's, and it is never sold.
